This unknown dragonfly posed for several pictures. It was September 23 before I was finally able to identify it — a red saddlebags dragonfly (Tramea onusta).  They measure 1.8 inches. Their range includes Illinois across Iowa, Missouri and on down across the lower states, west to southern California.
