Yard Mysteries

I’ll start this blog with an …. “I have absolutely no idea what these “things” are.”

The ones in this and the next picture were all found on the outside of the south window of my bedroom.

This one was on another window. Look close at the bottom end,  and you’ll see what looks like two eyes.

This one has me stumped. It’s too small to see the details of its head. It had two teeny eyes ringed with blue.

All these pictures were taken from inside the house. I’m assuming these were insects. I will post the blog again if I find out what these are … or if a reader knows.

Another Face

IMG_3691

I always take pictures of the full moon (some, like this one, from in the house). The trees blocked the last full moon until bedtime. So, I took the camera in the bedroom and later took pictures through the south window when the moon peaked through the trees. I didn’t realize until the next day, when I was looking at the pictures, that I photographed what looked like a moon spirit …

The man in the moon does exist!

Do You See Her?

The morning fog blurs the background of this picture.

I sit on the couch across the living room from the window. Every time I sit here I see a face staring back at me from the oak outside the window (three windows side-by-side).

The leaf hanging on the left is her hair, the twig angling in from the top right is her closed eye, and the lowest leaf on the right is her mouth.

What is she thinking? Does she have a message for me?

Oh, What a Night!

Our living room window looks toward the west, over a highway, across a farmer’s field and on over to woods and a house.

I usually sit by the window and eat my supper. The view varies.

A tall wall of clouds added drama to this unusual view.

Then the sun held it’s spot. The odd thing was there wasn’t a definite hard-edged to the sun’s shape.

IMG_0697 red

The sun seemed to emanate with slightly changing colors.

IMG_0699 red

It all seemed to stand still in its part of the sky’s landscape.

IMG_0700 red

Where exactly was the sun’s location? Apparently it created its own pattern and shapes of light.

What was sinking in what?

… and then an eagle soared by.

I still don’t understand why the sun lacked a definite shape.

The colors gradually faded as night approached.

What a Difference Three Days Make

Strong winds, hours of heavy snow and dropping temperatures created dramatic results

that could be enjoyed from the picture window by my computer. (Jan 10)

The large hackberry tree added an interesting background for some pictures.

Ice on the window created a variety of designs

for dramatic pictures.

All that remains now are the icicles hanging from the gutter.

And then a sunny day today (January 14) the temperature rises to 57 degrees.

Buffy and I walked a loop of the backyard. She investigated along the side of the barn until the the fox let her know she wasn’t wanted there. With the wind, she actually smelled up about half of the back-back of our yard.

I walked right up to a crawdad mound. The hole was open, and I could see water down in there.

The dandelion flower stood out! All other colors were winter-dull.

Dandelion flowerheads are actually made of many yellow ray flowers. They have five tiny petals, and both male and female parts.

A Morning Surprise

I was slow-moving this morning until I went in the kitchen.

IMG_9205

There, out the window, was a rainbow! It had been two years or more since I’ve seen one. I hurried out on the porch and took pictures.  A light rain was falling.

IMG_9207

I got back on the couch to finish my breakfast, and there out the window was the other end of the rainbow. Again, I hurried out to take pictures. This time the best view was from under an oak tree. The two sides weren’t connected at the top.

IMG_9211

Curious as I am, I hurried to the computer room to check the sunrise. Obviously, it wasn’t to thrilling.

The final image … a perfect way to start the day.
